Huruf Besar ke Huruf Kecil? June 1, 2015 17:25
Apa yang anda lihat lebih apabila membuka buku , huruf besar atau huruf kecil ???
Saya selalu ajar my children (sekarang berusia 14,11, 9) huruf kecil dahulu selepas tu baru mula kenalkan huruf besar.
Kenapa saya suka kenalkan huruf kecil sahaja?
Kerana sesetengah huruf mempunyai bentuk yang berbeza (huruf besar tidak sama dengan huruf kecil), yang boleh menimbulkan kekeliruan kepada kanak-kanak, seperti huruf ‘Q q' 'D d', dan ‘E e'‘. Kanak2 mudah keliru apabila kita cuba untuk perkenalkan kedua-dua huruf serentak pada tahap awal. (This what I felt masa mengajar anak2 saya) Sekiranya huruf seperti ‘W w’ dan ‘Z z’ tidak mengapa, kerana huruf besar dan kecil mempunyai bentuk yang sama.
Selain daripada itu, I observe kebanyakan perkataan di dalam buku menggunakan huruf kecil, berbanding huruf besar, saya lihat apabila huruf kecil diperkenalkan dahulu, permulaan proses membaca anak-anak adalah lebih lancar. Contohnya, ‘pin’ selalu ditulis berbanding ‘PIN’, jadi apabila kita cuma tumpukan kepada pengenalan huruf kecil, mungkin mereka lebih fokus dan tidak perlu ‘terkeliru’ dengan info huruf besar..in short it is 'easy' and 'no confusion'
Oh yes..one more thing perkenalkan bunyi huruf..the phonics way..

Anak2 dyslexic kita, susah/tidak boleh mengenal(recognize) word pattern and rhyming. Contoh rhyming; boat, coat, goat...cth word patterns; plane, plain
Saya nak kongsi ttg faedah ‘rhyming/pattern books‘. Sebenarnya rhyming adalah ulangan bunyi yg sama (repetition of similar sounds) dlm satu and dua perkataan. Selalunya digunakan dlm poem.
Apabila kita bacakan buku yang mempunyai ayat-ayat ‘rhyme‘, ia dapat bantu anak2 belajar tentang bunyi. Juga membantu anak2 dalam proses belajar membaca. Ini koleksi anak2 saya tahun (2006/7)buku lady bird..Dr Seuss. .books The cat in the hat..bagus jugak. (Selalu baca di pj library) .Di pasaran sekarang ada byk rhyming books.

*salah satu indicator/symptoms for dyslexic ialah tidak mampu untuk mengidentifikasi rhyming/ word patterns.

Anak2 dyslexia memang ada hard time with the sequencing (urutan). So cleaning the room is hard because its a mess and they don’t know what they need to do first. I believe its very challenging for them.
Kena bagi specific instruction, buku yg bersepah diatas meja, atas katil, kat lantai semua kena letak kat book shelf. Baju-baju kena lipat atau masuk dalam mesin basuh. Pinggan dan gelas letak dalam dapur untuk dicuci and so many other instruction. Kalau suruh setakat bersihkan “your room”, they dont know how to start, and end up keluar masuk bilik@buang masa. And harap2 boleh ingat! Kadang-kala tak ingat pulak what to do if told more than 2 things at a time. Ini jugak one of the traits of dyslexics. Instuructions tu kena simple n be patient.
Sometimes they dont see the mess. Tapi suka sangat bila bilik jadi kemas....lepas tu berserabut balik. Saya rasa perkara ini common. Again, not every child of course....but kebanyakkan anak2 dyslexic kekurangan organzation skills. Actually anak2 kita ini can be tidy and messy but cannot organize itu saja. Kalau nak pakai pyscology term its called “Executive Functioning Skills”.

Saya percaya sementara Reading and Writing go hand-in-hand, kita perlu memberi lebih keutamaan dalam mengajar 'how to write'.
In return, our child’s writing will actually influence and strengthen their reading skills. After all, it will be their writing that will be responsible for their academic progress.
They can start writing two words with pictures (of course) for start. .Gradually more words to make sentences...Please do not tegur; capital takde, komanya mana, full stop lupa letak, spelling entah kat mana..yg paling penting the child writes what in his mind. Because of, so much of negative comments anak2 stop writing takut kena marah.
Good readers may be good writers, but good writers are always good readers! -unknown

Common phrases from parents;
"are you listening"
"why dont you just listen to me "
"dah berapa kali bgi tau".....
1)Weak listening skills, a limited attention span, problems maintaining focus...
2)A tendency to be easily distracted, inability to remain focused.
There are already struggling with all the above issues...to make things worst the surrounding noise can make learning difficult for them.
They hv high sensitivity towards noise causes them to zone out and daydream! !!!
Example of scenarios;
1) if neighbours tv noise is too loud they might find it difficult to learn
2) arguments in the house can disturb them greatly too
So, how can we help these children. From my experience these strategies worked 4 me;
1) ask them what noise surrounding disturbs them, it can be as simple as pressure cooker making noise
2) our voice could be too loud when we talk to them. So try to be soft and gentle.
3) if possible sit with them while doing homework because the moment you leave they will get distracted with something.
4) Most importantly, tell them how long is the study time, 30 min, 1 hour. Avoid giving vague info, buat kerja sampai habis, instead be specific. Siap kerja dlm masa 15min lps tu boleh ada playtime. Children are only anxious about time frames in exam not at home.

Tanda-tanda bahawa kanak-kanak mungkin memerlukan bantuan tambahan dengan belajar bagaimana untuk menulis termasuk :
• Cengkaman pensil sangat janggal
• tulisan tangan tidak boleh dibaca
• kesukaran membentuk huruf
• Ketidakupayaan untuk menumpukan perhatian dan tugas bertulis lengkap
• Mengelak menulis
. Banyak perkataan kesilapan ejaan
• Surat atau kata-kata yang tidak mengikut urutan yang betul
• Penempatan tidak betul kata-kata di muka
• Jarak antara huruf yang tidak rata
• Jurang besar antara bahasa pertuturan dan keupayaan bertulis
• Sangat lambat dan sukar untuk menulis

Almonds + Kismis (raisins)...all time generation fomula @ for brain
We know our children get mentally tired/fatigue/penat/letih/lesu/lemah compared to their peers often and fast......why because their brains have to work hard 5x more compared to their peers.
They NEED .... proper food..and the title says it all! ! Almond together with kismis. .yes that's the combination to give.....especially bila anak2 kita rasa nak makan junk food,give handful of this dry fruits.
This formula I have been using since I was a child n going on till today...saya guna raw almond che ros (not roasted, flavoured or salted).
